welcoming you into the church and a life of faith
If you would like to be baptized or have your child baptized we ask that you meet with our minister over a period of time to discuss the ritual and what it means, as well as worship with us over that period to see if this is a church family you'd like to be part of. For questions and more detailed information, contact us by phone or email at the church office. We'd love to discuss this with you.
baptism - what is it?
While baptisms mean different things within different traditions, it is a sacrament that goes all the way back to Jesus and his first followers. In our tradition, it represents two things; for adults, it is a public declaration of someone’s intent to continue to orient their lives in the way of Jesus. For children, it’s a way for the parents’ to say we want to raise a child in a way where they know they are loved by God (no matter what) and where they learn the values and teachings of Jesus. In both cases, the church community responds by saying “We’re here for you. We will do this together.” For us, it’s a beautiful act of faith and display of what it means to be part of a loving and affirming church community.
If I get baptized, what’s expected? Good question. Because it is an intentional act, we encourage people who do this to find a way to be a part of the life and work of our church, to give how they can and grow in their faith and spirituality.
blessing - what is it?
A blessing is similar to a baptism as it’s a way for a family to commit to raising a child in God’s love, but in this case, it’s done surrounded by family and friends instead of the church community. For us, it’s a way to commit to friends and family that this child will be raised with and in love, and for them to say, “we will help you do this.”
